Sample result · Read aloud

Ik ga morgen met de trein naar Groningen.

8/8words understood
62clarity · pass at 65
/x/ → /ɡ/ in Groningen

The Dutch g is made at the back of the throat, like the ch in Scottish loch, not the g of go. Keep your tongue low and let the air scrape through.

Almost there: this sentence comes back in your next session.

Whatever brings you to Dutch

Six levels, A1 to C2, from ordering a coffee to holding your own in a meeting. Start where you are: a short placement test finds your level.

Words grouped by the situations you meet, from the shop and the doctor to your neighbours, each heard in a natural Dutch voice and used in real sentences.

Work and study

Grammar that finally clicks

119 topics explained in short steps, with practice right after each one, up to the Dutch you need at work or university.

Exams

Ready when you need it

Accent coach

It hears which sound went wrong

Most apps check that you said the words. This one listens to every sound.

  1. Read a sentence aloud. You hear it first in a natural Dutch voice.
  2. Two checks, both must pass. Were your words understood? Was each sound clear?
  3. A coach explains the miss. Not just a score: which sound, and how to make it.
  4. Misses come back. A sentence you didn't pass is waiting at the start of your next session.

Speaking challenge

Wat heb je vorig weekend gedaan?

You said Ik heb naar de markt gegaan.

Better Ik ben naar de markt gegaan.

Verbs of movement to a place take zijn, not hebben, in the perfect tense.

    Build the sentence

Dutch word order trips up nearly everyone. Put the words in order, then check.

In the app every answer is checked for meaning, not just spelling: a correct answer that sounds less natural is accepted, with a note.

Tomorrow I'm going to the market.
